She started the project to help families reclaim their damaged photographs.

She reached out through Facebook and LinkedIn initially, then partnered with two Japanese towns to set up photo reclamation centers that sent scanned photos to volunteers around the world.

We can use them to preserve photographs, which in turn preserve memories.

Her work was important because it saved the memories that are important to all of the survivors.
